Qld: AMAQ backs one expert rule in civil court cases
The peak doctors' lobby group in Queensland says only one medical expert should beallowed to testify in each civil court case, to prevent hired guns from producing biasedevidence.
ROB SINCLAIR, spokesman for the Queensland branch of the Australian Medical Association, says it's important to stop expert opinion being sold off.
He says his association wants a variation of the Queensland courts rules committee'sproposed single-expert plan.
The committee's plan would see a single expert, either to be nominated by the courtor agreed to by both parties in the dispute, able to give evidence.
Dr SINCLAIR says the AMA would prefer medical experts be chosen from a panel of professionalswith the appropriate credentials in suitable areas of medicine.
